Saw this movie and I gotta say -- its such a experience above from typical animes that I agree in redeeming it an A+. It's so touching in different levels and what a shame that the character's don't make it in the end yet their story lives on....the fact that this is based upon the director's autobiographical book makes it all the more moving and depressing.

This movie is really depressing. I've never seen an animation like it. Brutally honest about the effects of war on civilians. Any movie involving suffering children will get me. The relationship between the 2 main characters is so well written. One of the best from Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki-san.

I seen this film last year and was absolutely blown away! One of the most beautiful and heart wrenching stories I have ever watched animated or otherwise. I recommend this film to people I meet often. It really is an A+ experience!
