Dasepo Naughty Girls – Review

Admittedly, I had a few smiles into the first 20 minutes of the film. Sadly, thats about the time the moive runs out of steam. Dasepo Naughty Girls is based on the Internet comic strip, Multi-Cell Girl which follows sexual adventures in one seriously bizarre high school. Dasepo Naughty Girls is a film that has an exterior of a wacky sexy romp. The film is a kaleidoscope of dumb sex jokes, visual humor, and storylines that involve a principal possessed by a mythical monster who espouses the virtue of virginity to the students of the high school. Yeah, it’s dumb.

This film can be viewed as funny yet pointless – kind of like American Pie. There are sex gags on par with anything National Lampoon did in their heyday. However, it’s breezy and light, and without a doubt, it fulfils the goal of being pure entertainment. I just thought the jokes were a bit immature and the story dragged a bit as each gag got more and more predictable. Not to condtradict myself, it is a fun movie, but it is also an exhausting film, more often than not for the wrong reasons.

The difficulty in determining exactly what Dasepo Naughty Girls is meant to be might explain its extremely poor showing at the Korean box office. . Overstated facial expressions, wacky mannerisms, unbelievable situations; it’s all here for your consumption. Dasepo Naughty Girls is not for the fond of reality but there are chuckles to be had. This itself makes it a hard film to judge because it’s too intelligent to be a simple teen sex comedy, yet not edgy enough to attract a wider spectrum of viewers. On apositive note though, Visually, the film is absolutely stunning, visually.

The production design, editing and cinematography really stand out, only to then become mind-numbingly functional and flat for the rest of the film. Let’s be straight: there is no nudity and no copulation in this film, which even American Pie was smart enough to include. The biggest compliment I can say towards this stinker is that Koreans really have wild imaginations, since they managed to squeeze life’s realities in a crazy movie. Other than that, the movie does live up to its being “naughty”, but its just too bad the film is so terrible. Barely passible based on the little praise I gave it and it might be worthwhile to some of you that would like to see it.
