Wow, what a bad review. The fact that the reviewer said of Derek Yee, "is a director that has delivered some of the most action packed scenes i’ve seen on film" explains everything. The fact that you know nothing about Yee (he isn't an action director) and the fact that you came into the movie expecting nothing but action and got frustrated when it wasn't.

Mindless action? Funny, there's very little action in the movie at all.

The script was excellent and far better than the first movie's which had a joke of a reason for the turn of one of the characters (he does one shooting competition and then he snaps into a killing machine).

This movie had easily the best performances out of Louis Koo's and Daniel Wu's career and it's a huge improvement for Derek Yee after the horrible movies Protoge and Shinjiku Incident.

Well on one hand I review this film as a stand alone film, and then on the other I judge it based on the directors past work and the films genre. HK Actioneers and poorly written screenplays usually go hand in hand and thus the action scenes are the only things the audience takes away from them. So I'm giving you a viewpoint on the film as a genre film and one as a general movie. It's a good film as a mindless action film, but its poor as a film itself.

I don't see how you say it's quite exasperatingly bad on the one hand, but a decent addition to the genre with which you had no real qualms. What's that all about? Would you consider this also a fair review of your review? Too much contradiction leaves no solid stance for the reader to leave with.
