My Amnesia Girl – Review

Let us get this out of the way right away, My Amnesia Girl is not a rip off of Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s movie, 50 First Dates. This is standard romcom thrills, but it has it’s own story to unfold. The main character is named Apollo and we follow him as he tries to rekindle his botched romance. The script is smartly written; rich with clever lines and dynamite wit. This is needed since this isn’t exactly the perfect love story, since a confused Apollo left his bride-to-be at the altar.

The chemistry between John Lloyd and Toni blend perfectly. The film is simply about the challenge of forgiving and asking for forgiveness. The second act was, as expected, a very sugarcoated montage. However, the charm of the film shiens through. Even though I am not a big romcom fan, I can’t deny that My Amnesia Girl is a film that transcended the limiting bounds of formula filmmaking without breaking them. Since this is in the genre of humor and harmless romance, My Amnesia Girl is a feel good movie, no more no less.

I don’t want to spoil the movie, but let’s just say that the ending is its weak point. I will commend the Star Cinema PR people for focusing on the movie’s strengths, its witty lines – instead of blowing a petty issue out of proportion to promote the movie.  Romantic comedies are either win or bust, and one of the reasons the directors films belong to the former is her main actors. I really felt emotion while watching this film and it was 100 percent believable. Albeit some problem with inconsistent lighting and weak voice sounding, all of that was forgiven with brilliant acting and a very clever and realistic script.  Cathy Garcia Molina has once again succeeded in making our hearts feel good.

People are watching My Amnesia Girl for sheer entertainment and a few moments of escape. I can see why, if only life was this perfect, right? Do you ever wonder about the love of your life who might be crossing the street as you don’t notice because you’re too busy watching the traffic light? This is the type of film that makes you think about stuff like that. Because above all things, love at first sight believes in second sight. From the beginning until the end of the movie you will laugh and laugh. As for the women, there will be scenes in the movie where you will be touched and will cry with the characters. I suppose that is fitting since, unfortunately, they make all the leading ladies cry too much on screen. I actually enjoyed this film, which surprised me. I usually avoid these movies like the plague but I am glad I gave it a shot. If you decide to watch it, I am sure you will love it too.

Sounds promising but hearing the ending is quite bad strikes fear in my heart. As long as the rest of the movie is worth the bad ending I could probably give this one a shot.

I disagree. I think the ending was the best thing in the movie! The scene with just Apollo & Irene, to the last credits was my favorite part.
