Tadanobu Asano

Tadanobu Asano was born November 27, 1973 and is a Japanese actor. Described by some as a cross between Johnny Depp and Toshirô Mifune, Asano Tadanobu is certainly the hippest, if not the single most important, Japanese film actor working today.

The extensive range of Asano’s film career is due in part to his decision no longer to appear in television programms, even though TV work in Japan is generally more lucrative than film acting. He won the Most Popular Performer award at the 1997 Japanese Academy Awards for Acri and was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category in 2004 for his performance in Zatôichi. He also received the Upstream Prize for Best Actor at the 2003 Venice Film Festival for his role in Last Life in the Universe. Hesistant to identify himself as an actor, he most readily describes himself as a vocalist, referring to Mach 1.67, the band he has with director Gakuryu Ishii.

have never been able to finish Ichi the Killer… it just~~~ freaks me out too much in the first 15min. LOL I just can’t go on beyond that point. But gotta admit, Tadanobu in Mongol is… a surprising and quite effective pick.

I’ve always thought he came across as kinda effortlessly hip, I also think that Ryuhei Matsuda (http://hum.my/oNRNPH ) has always managed to pick interesting roles too.
