I’m sure all of you have seen a lot of animes. But which one was the most bloody and violent anime you’ve ever seen??? That is what we set out to do when we started these lists. Below are films or series of anime that are all extremely brilliantly bloody and if you haven’t already. Please check out our previous lists:
We kick off the 3rd entry in our Violent Anime Top 10 with the number 10 pick:
Mnemosyne will probably be most known for its extremely explicit and disturbing gore and erotic imagery, and no doubt that will turn many viewers off to the series. Throughout the whole series there is intense female nudity and graphic bondage, and rape that isn’t put in subtly, but it all ties into the plot so it’s not just put in there for fun. That’s the price, apparently, that she pays for being immortal and a tough female ass-kicker.
The particular scene we choose was Yujiro vs Jack Hanma. This was a more methodical scene of violence as Baki’s half brother is a pitfighter from Canada and the son of Ujiro and a Canadian soldier woman who Yujiro met in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Like Baki, he has since childhood wished to surpass his father Ujiro in strength and martial ability. His obsession to defeat his father led to extreme overtraining and overworking which led to the deterioration of his body. What follows is a pretty brutal knockout resulting in loss of said teeth.
Uh…a huge WTF goes out to Midori. This is a very disturbing story about a young girl called Midori who ends up in a circus, practically as a slave. At first, with no protection, she is doing all the hard work for everyone else, and gets raped and molested by freaks. The scene in question? STEPPING ON CUTE DOGGIES! WHATTAHAIL!?
While viewers familiar with the content of the three volumes of Berserk that precede the story in the film will probably have a deeper understanding and connection to Guts and Griffith’s actions, the story is by no means impenetrable to first-time viewers. Story aside, it is easy to get into an anime when the main character weilds a sword even Cloud from Final Fantasy would deem inappropriate. Sword flys; faces melt, bodys cut in half. Boom.
Deadman Wonderland is already earning the dubious achievement of being this year’s most violent anime. It really does have a grotesque and brutal story. Miguel, our writer, stated that it is a showcase of absolute brutality and bloodshed consistently throughout the series, and that Deadman Wonderland is not for the faint of heart, which may turn off some viewers but elicit praise from others. It’s most certainly one of the most violent and controversial series to come along in awhile, but acting as a spectacle of death, carnage and torture can only get you so far.
The anime completely butchered the incredible sound novels. However, Umineko is likely to be gut-wrenching less because of the violence level (which typically involves a great deal of torn, disfigured faces and other macabre murder methods straight out of a Grand Guignol production) and more because of the sheer antipathy each of the characters feel for one another at times. Physical and emotional child abuse, bullying, paranoid mistrust—these are only some of the topics touched upon in Umineko’s explorations of the darker side of humanity. The scenes are gore at its best.
Baccano is a pretty violent anime. The scene that always stayed with me was Czeslaw. Czeslaw is emotionally still a child. His display of feelings and reflex actions that reacts to unexpected situation remains as frail and impulsive as a young boy. So naturally a scene where a sawed off shotgun blasting half is face off followed by the pitter patter of his brain matter hitting the floor ranks up pretty high on the list.
Higurashi is the only anime to appear twice on these lists as the finger nail ripping scene made an appearance on part I. After Shion loses her mind and lures her crush’s younger sister, Satoko Houjou, to her house and chains her to something resembling a wooden cross. Shion proceeds to stab Satoko in her arms and hands with Mion screaming in the background to stop, and her stabs grow more furious as Satoko proclaims that she won’t cry, for her older brother’s sake. Shion finally tops it off by stabbing Satoko in the neck. Needless to say, this scene is one of the goriest in all of Higurashi.
I read Apocalypse Zero, was a show so heinous that anyone involved with this show really ought to be ashamed of themselves for putting their name on it. It is the most viscerally violent and gruesome anime I may have seen and it is arguably the most grotesque anime ever. We see an extreme obese woman attack a high-school couple by taking the girlfriend and literally squeezing her to death by forcing her innards out her mouth while delivering what must surely be the worst line in anime history: “It’s what’s on the inside that counts!”
Coming in at number one, some people claim Anime such as Mirai Nikki promote violent and deadly behaviour among children and should be censored. Mirai Nikki portrays children as young as 4-years-old committing violent actions in order to kill or harm others. These actions include stabbing, shooting, and setting traps. Considering the nature of Mirai Nikki’s plot (a battle royale), death is a regular occurance. The scene in question is the eye gauging scene however the whole anime is sprinkled with good scenes. Claiming that Mirai Nikki promotes violent and deadly behavior is baseless and an attack on anime. With that said, enjoy the gore!
