Nightmare Detective 2 – Review

Nightmare Detective 2 – Review

Nightmare Detective 2 is a successful sequel that makes you think as much as it scares you. It is all about unexplainable things that inflict sheer terror on human beings and how they leave victims psychologically devastated. Not only is the movie scary, it's downright smart. Bestseller – Review

Bestseller – Review

Bestseller reminded me a lot of The Shining and it did have some genuine thrills and scares. I could notice immediately how involved the actors were in their work and they belted out some great performances. I learned that actress Uhm Jung-hwa even lost 7 kilograms of her weight for her role in Bestseller. Click to read the full review...

Takut: Faces of Fear – Review

Takut: Faces of Fear – Review

Takut: Faces of Fear is another one of those horror films that consist of smaller stories filmed by different directors, but this time around it is actually somewhat scary. I would say that Takut is better than the big budget films of the same genre because of its high level in potentially interesting stories. The only way to find out how good is to click for the full review...

Arang – Review

Arang – Review

Of all the long-haired ghost girl Asian films populating my DVD shelf, Arang is definitely one of the more interesting and fresh. This film has it's supernatural overtones but is really a thriller-murder mystery and, in my opinion, a very good one. Check out my full review to see if Arang has what it takes to lift the ghost horror genre up from the gutter...

Macabre – Review

Macabre – Review

My personal vote for the best asian horror "slasher" of the year, it rarely ventures into cheesy drama, or false shocks. I felt as if I was watching Asia's version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The kills are satisfying, but towards the end the violence goes over the edge to a point of no return. Click to read if you agree, in my full review...

Horrors of Malformed Men – Review

Horrors of Malformed Men – Review

The Japanese rarely seem to make a simple film. Horrors of Malformed Men is also very complex, even to the point of being convoluted. Along with the complex storyline, there is plenty of bizarre and twisted imagery. It is also an original and unique horror film, even more so that it was made in 1969. Yoga Hakwon – Review

Yoga Hakwon – Review

Korean horror has focused on some ridiculous subjects over the last few years but Yoga Hakwon seems to take the cake. After finding this movie on a streaming site, I decided that I should give it a shot. Unique plot aside the real question is if YOU should check it out. Yoga Hakwon uses slow-building tension for effectiveness. Click to read full review...

9 Wat – Review

9 Wat – Review

Not a boring Buddhist thriller, Saranyoo Jiralak's debut feature 9 Wat starts off with a bang. Even with the toned-down sexploitation factor and the relative incoherence of the plot, 9 Wat should connect with an audience looking for a fun and original Asian horror movie. The perfect blend of gore, sexuality, and intelligent script writing, I thoroughly enjoyed this film...

Meatball Machine – Review

Meatball Machine – Review

Horror week wraps up and I saved the worst for last! Meatball Machine is not for anyone who has no interest in campy or cult movies, but if cult flicks are up your ally, and crazy mutant parasite aliens taking over human bodies, and then eating each other is your bag...then by all means. Gore, blood, violence, and everything bizarre is included. Click to read the full review!
