13 Assassins is not only the most accomplished and polished film of Takashi Miike's career, it is also the best film I have watched so far at the Fantastic Film Festival. As this film closed out the festival in Austin, TX I couldn't help but leave with a smile on my face. Click to read the full exclusive review...
Continuing my coverage at the Festival, today bring The Man From Nowhere. The story doesn’t hold any big surprises, but it is still a pretty cool ride. The director, who is fairly new at making films still needs to tighten up his focus and camera placements but I see progress in his work and all is forgiven. Click to read the full review...
Director Andrew Lau and action star Donnie Yen mark the official beginning of my Fantastic Fest week in review. I am having a great time here checking out all the celebs and film screenings. One of the great things about TIFF is that in addition to the heavier, Oscar worthy titles premiering at the fest, ...
I'm usually very forgiving of movies and understanding of their flaws, but this movie was an epic fail. The whole reason being, is The King of Fighter's actually takes itself seriously. I am sure that the director had the best of intentions at heart, but there is no need to make a movie out of a fighting game that has long gone out of date. Click for the full review...
Reign of Assassins is quite similar to Mr. & Mrs. Smith in which Michelle Yeoh and Jung Woo-Sung play a married couple, each unaware the spouse is a world-class assassin. The Legend Is Born: Ip Man is a multidimensional film dealing with Ip Man’s personal life as much with his martial arts skills. That's not to say this film in necessarily inferior to Ip Man 1 & 2, just different. Donnie Yen absent, it is still worthy to be on your shelf next to these films. This film reminded me a lot of Denzel Washington's character in Man on Fire. Where a character starts out fairly content, after the kidnapping the actor must go through a convincing and poignant transformation in his acting. Man of Vendetta, on the surface, may sound too cliche, but it is definitely interesting. Click to read the full review...
The plot is basically about a huge over-sized boar that is terrorizing and killing the people in the country size, and it has some Korean humor thrown in as well. More so than 'The Host', Chaw is much more comedy than horror. Click to read the full movie review and see if this film makes the grade or falls short and ends up another generic monster movie...
Already from the first scene you will notice that this isn't your typical historic piece. Certain to be enjoyed by viewers looking for a fast paced slice of action comedy, Chun-doong meets a beautiful woman and it is love at first sight. You can see that the actors had a lot of fun making this movie. Click to read the full review to see if it makes the grade...
