City of Fathers is relatively light during the first half in comparison with the second, which grows to be filled with violence and plenty of adult situations. Without giving too much away, the film shifts its focus at just about every half-hour mark. At it's heart, City of Fathers is a drama but it evolves from different angles while the direction is tight and stylish, with some nail biting scenes...
The Case of Itaewon Homicide follows the actual real life case of an unsolved murder in Seoul's Itaewon district in 1997 that plays out largely in English. It felt very similar to Zodiac, where a movie is made about a crime case that lacks a proper conclusion leaving the viewer hanging in the balance. However, fans of true crime stories will definitely not want to miss this...
With a film named Vengeance, you already know revenge is the name of the game. Also, expect several scenes without any dialog, as To wants the audience to watch the body language, so as to do the interpretation themselves. Those sitting on the fence will wonder what the fuss is about with this film being part of the official selection at the Cannes Film Festival. I, too, was scratching my head...
The film takes place in the congested streets of Seoul to the rural countryside. In Treeless Mountain a mother drops off her children to live with her alcoholic sister in law. The meaning is artfully implied by watching the girls as they react to the people and happenings around them. It is a profound experience of cinematic deduction--truly unique in its manner of delivering its message.
As Ace hits the road on the way to the next Guitar Wolf gig, a meteorite crashes into the town of the next show, turning all inhabitants into zombies. Wild Zero is just crazy and twisted but after watching the whole thing I'm a huge fan. I particularly liked the character of Makoto Inamiya who played a womanizing villain and Haruka Nakajo as a sexy bazooka wielding assassin. Although the concept is ludicrous Wild Zero is major fun from beginning to end.
As action movies go, Legendary Assassin is blazingly unimaginative, so it naturally falls upon the film's star to carry the proceedings. Ultimately, Legendary Assassin is easy to forgive but hard to completely appreciate, as it only scratches the surface of Wu Jing's abilities. The film may not offer anything new in terms of story, but I would still recommend it for its very well executed action sequences and Wu Jing’s presence alone.
Seven Swords is a really spectacular production while Donnie Yen fans can be rest assured, as this is a very easy movie to obtain unlike a few of his other films. However, the fight choreography is nothing special, and the dialogue seems to lurch from one non sequitur to another. So, if you want to see a Donnie Yen showcase, you might want to look elsewhere.
A Battle of Wits brings to the screen the story of a warrior during 370 BC known for his defensive skills who takes up the task of seeing to the protection of a city faced with superior enemy forces. This is a beautiful movie on a delicate and difficult subject. There are no bad guys ...
There’s a fond place in my heart for Initial D. My first car in high school actually resembled the car the main character had in the original anime series. Thus, kicked off my initial interest in the world of car racing. While the anime stayed fairly close to the manga, this live action movie makes ...
