The tone of this 26 episode anime series is very quiet and somber, balancing on the edge of being a ghost story. If you’re looking for something quiet, serene, and even more quiet, then look into Mushi-Shi. Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone – Review
As a reviewer who has posted several DBZ movies I thought it was only fitting to post a review of Dead Zone since it was the beginning of the needlessly long line of DBZ movies actually started off fairly smoothly. How does this 20 year old DBZ movie perform? Click to find out!
Batman: Under the Red Hood – Review
The bar has been raised for direct to home animated films, and I loved Batman: Under the Red Hood so much, I featured this on the site even though there really isn’t any Asian influences in the film aside from the voice actors. Click to read the full review of DC’s latest animated title…
Naruto Shippuden 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire – Review
The latest Shippuden movie is quite straightforward and drops you in the middle of the Naruto universe, so I wouldn’t recommend just watching this film as a stand alone. This one is about a former leaf ninja who’s trying to make himself invincible! Click to read the full review…
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust – Review
This anime is an excellent addition to any collection or a great introduction to the world of anime. In my opinion, this movie isn’t just another slice of authentic Japanese anime, it is essential viewing no matter who you are. Click to read the full review…
Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Second Coming – Review
After Broly was defeated by Goku in the first movie, he managed to escape into a Sayin Space pod, only to crash on earth and be encased in a sheet of Ice. Now Broly has come back for some violence…but is it as awesome as it sounds? Read on to see, in my full review…
Power Kids – Review
June 30th, 2010
cello85 So, if you are a regular reader of this site you probably know these kinds of films by now. It is underdeveloped, weak, and somewhat aggravating, yet awesome action. If these kids were in a better movie it would have been a far greater showcase for their undeniable talent. Is Power Kids the next big thing out of Thailand? Click to find out in my full review… Continue reading
Gangster High – Review
June 29th, 2010
cello85 Gangster High is a brutal violence gangster movie from a horror director. Baseball bats, pipes, axes and knives all get used in the fight sequences with a very realistic touch. Really, this is all the film has going for it, so if you like broken bones and violence, this should be up your alley. Click to read my full review of this 2006 South Korean drama… Continue reading
The Crab Cannery Ship – Review
June 28th, 2010
cello85 Why does a novel about exploited workers on a crab cannery boat, published 80 years ago by a young communist writer, become a hot movie property now? Well, Crab Cannery Ship plays more as exercise than drama. All in all, this is a very interesting film, but not necessarily a good one, if that makes sense. xxxHOLiC the Movie: A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Review
June 25th, 2010
cello85 At turns creepy, funny, and a little dark, the xxxHOLiC movie is a lot of fun. What really makes this anime tick is its ability to draw in the audience and carry them through an unusual, almost frightening, spiral of events. Click to read my full review… Continue reading
Macabre – Review
June 24th, 2010
cello85 My personal vote for the best asian horror “slasher” of the year, it rarely ventures into cheesy drama, or false shocks. I felt as if I was watching Asia’s version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The kills are satisfying, but towards the end the violence goes over the edge to a point of no return. Click to read if you agree, in my full review… Continue reading
Black Samurai – Review
June 23rd, 2010
cello85 Black Samurai with production value as terrible as it is, definitely ranks up there with the most entertaining movies I’ve ever seen. I laughed so hard at times, I nearly cried. Either they were doing this tongue in cheek, or it was complete schlock, it ranks as mediocre, yet it’s a keeper.
