Filmed in the late 60's, Profound Desires of the Gods failed to make an impression at the time of its release, but has since risen in stature to become one of the most legendary albeit least seen Japanese films of recent decades. Shot in an otherworldly palette of rich colors, click to see if this movie makes the grade in the full review...
Of all the long-haired ghost girl Asian films populating my DVD shelf, Arang is definitely one of the more interesting and fresh. This film has it's supernatural overtones but is really a thriller-murder mystery and, in my opinion, a very good one. Check out my full review to see if Arang has what it takes to lift the ghost horror genre up from the gutter...
I can say with confidence that by the time the final reel came along, all the cards fell into place and I was left with a bittersweet taste in my mouth. I honestly have no qualms with Triple Tap, I just made the mistake of going in with higher expectations. After Broly was defeated by Goku in the first movie, he managed to escape into a Sayin Space pod, only to crash on earth and be encased in a sheet of Ice. Now Broly has come back for some violence...but is it as awesome as it sounds? Read on to see, in my full review...
Ultimately, Wasabi serves as the foundation for a cinematic experience that is neither remarkable or common. The action is pretty steady throughout, and is more of the comic book variety, like what you might see in a Jackie Chan film. I'm left to wonder if Shyamalan actually watched an episode of the series or just read the Wikipedia page and went to work. I'll admit there are one or two very minor things that this movie improved on over the show. But does it live up to the hype of the fantastic animated Nickelodean show or does it fall as another terrible adaptation? Click to read the full review...
The tone of this 26 episode anime series is very quiet and somber, balancing on the edge of being a ghost story. If you're looking for something quiet, serene, and even more quiet, then look into Mushi-Shi. Click to read my full review of one of the best anime series you probably haven't watched...
So, if you are a regular reader of this site you probably know these kinds of films by now. It is underdeveloped, weak, and somewhat aggravating, yet awesome action. If these kids were in a better movie it would have been a far greater showcase for their undeniable talent. Is Power Kids the next big thing out of Thailand? Click to find out in my full review...
Gangster High is a brutal violence gangster movie from a horror director. Baseball bats, pipes, axes and knives all get used in the fight sequences with a very realistic touch. Really, this is all the film has going for it, so if you like broken bones and violence, this should be up your alley. Click to read my full review of this 2006 South Korean drama...
Why does a novel about exploited workers on a crab cannery boat, published 80 years ago by a young communist writer, become a hot movie property now? Well, Crab Cannery Ship plays more as exercise than drama. All in all, this is a very interesting film, but not necessarily a good one, if that makes sense. Click to read the full review...
